How to Make an Opossum Repellant

It’s inexpensive and easy to Make an Opossum Repellant. So why spend the money when you probably have what you need already?

There are a few methods I have tried with success. One is using Ammonia and the another vinegar along with some chemical free ways.

Ammonia:

Get a small container like a plastic butter tub and fill it with old rags. Poor ammonia over te rags to completely saturate. Cut a bunch of holes in the lid so the ammonia odor comes through. (some people don’t even use a lid). Place these containers where you have rodent traffic. The smell of ammonia will make them turn away. I place several of these around the home.

Vinegar:

I had an opossum that would come at night and sit in my chair on the porch.¬† I sprayed the chair liberally with white vinegar and he hasn’t been back since.

Motion Sensor Sprinklers:

Sprinklers work if you are trying to keep animals out of your open areas. I have used this Contech CRO101 Scarecrow Motion Activated Sprinkler on everything from deer to cats with great success. I highly recommend you put this on a night timer or you might repel the mailman too…. I know from experience¬† ;-)

For a chemical free, electronic repellant you can try this Yard Sentinel – Electronic Pest & Animal Control Repeller with Motion Sensor . I have never tried this but it has a good rating.
